The PM6004 replaces the much-praised PM6003, But it’s not just the outward aesthetics that have been improved; Marantz took this upgrade opportunity to further improve this already excellent amp by refining the sound and optimising the balance from bass to mid to highs for a performance full of harmony. The new lower impedance Toroidal transformer shielded with case, was also matched to the new main capacitors, which again have been aligned to the new type of power transistor, mounted on a new extruded aluminium head sink, capable of handling higher currents and keeping closer control of the speaker. And of course all of the original features - such as six-line audio input including Phono, two-pairs of gold plated speaker connection with the convenience of bi-wiring and a remote handset - are still available.

Marantz is proud to announce it was again a multi-award winner at the prestigious What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision Awards. For in incredible third year running Marantz won a brace of Best CD Player award. This year it was the turn of the 6003 stereo series to dominate their respective categories ? picking-up where the two-times winning pair left off? See the full review for a taste of the glowing PM6003: "A cohesive and inviting sound; impressive insight and an easy-going sound; smart appearance".

Marantz CD6004 CD Player
The Marantz CD6004 replaces the award winning CD6003
The CD6004 continues down the same painstaking philosophy of product dedication, keep even the tiniest of details at the top of mind, do everything possible to optimize mechanism and potent power supply, insist on premium digital-to-analogue conversion with CS4398, and ensure a mirrored symmetrical output stage with Marantz-own HDAM-SA2 amplifiers.
And when all that is done, the CD6004 is checked again and fine-tune with even more specially selected components.
Marantz have also added a solid metal bottom-plate and centralised the CD mechanism’s location. That is how Marantz virtually eliminated vibration.
In addition, the stable, oversized power supply feeds the digital and analogue circuitry of the player, where the high-quality CS4398 converts digital signals to analogue, this is then ‘pushed’ to the gold-plated synch outputs by Marantz’s own small signal amplifier, the HDAM-SA2.
Altogether the CD6004 is a match made in heaven for the music lover who wants nothing but the best performance at an attractive price.
And one more thing it’s also perfect for lovers of portable music, thanks to its iPod-digital connectivity.
Dimensions (WxDxH): 440 x 339 x 106 - 7kg
On paper an electrical component might look excellent but the result may fall short of the combined design expectations. Marantz selects the appropriate components for the specific design application. In some cases it’s simply not possible to use standard components that meet the high Marantz standards. These components will then be specially made for Marantz in close cooperation with the Marantz engineers.
Marantz developed its own discrete circuit boards to replace standard IC's. These HDAM's consists of discrete surface mount components with short mirror image L/R signal paths. Those devices are doing exactly the same thing as the Op-Amps, but outperform the regular IC Op-amps dramatically in terms of the Slew Rate and reduced noise level, resulting in a much more dynamic, accurate and detailed sound. Over the years Marantz developed different types of the HDAM to improve quality and to fit to the special requirements of a product category like CD or amplifier.
MP3 is a lossy compression algorithm is designed to greatly reduce the amount of data required to represent the audio recording and still sound like a faithful reproduction of the original uncompressed audio for most listeners. An MP3 file that is created using the setting of 128 kbit/s will result in a file that is about 11 times smaller than the CD file created from the original audio source.
Symmetrical Circuit Layout
To achieve the best possible sonic performance, signal paths need to be short, direct and mirror imaged. The construction of our circuitry provides improved stereo imaging by ensuring close to perfect symmetry between right and left channel layout.
Remote capable to control the amplifier or receiver as well as connected source products from Marantz.
USB Audio makes it possible to listen to compressed audio files (MP3, Windows Media™ Audio, etc.) stored on MP3 players or external harddiscs. All Marantz USB enabled products make use of the USB 2.0 profile for fast and stable data transfer
Boston A26 Speakers (Pair)

The A26 is a smooth, entertaining performer that works well in a range of systems
Up until now if you were looking for a high-quality standmounter for around £250, the answer was simple: buy the Monitor Audio Bronze BX2s.
Very little we’ve heard at this price can compete with the Award-winning Monitor Audios when it comes to all-round sonic ability. But that all changed when a pair of the Boston Acoustics A26s arrived in our listening rooms.
This chunky-looking standmounting speaker is a beautifully accomplished performer that trades the last word in attack for a wonderfully fluid and engagingly musical presentation that positively brims with refinement.
Place them properly and reap rewards
The A26’s insight into recordings as diverse as Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Adele’s 21 is impressive at this price level, as is its ability to communicate scale and authority.
It also times decently, delivering the rhythm track from the Black Eyed Peas’ Elephunk with precision.
It’s worth taking an extra bit of care when setting up these speakers. Soundstyle’s excellent Z2 stands (£70 are the minimum requirement as far as supports are concerned; add a hint of toe-in towards the listening position and you’ll get a pleasingly layered and well-focussed sound stage.
Excellent build quality impresses
A look at the A26s’ build quality sees them continue to pile on the points. They’re well-built, and available in either the Black gloss of our review sample or a cherry finish.
These speakers are also relatively unfussy about positioning provided there’s around 20cm between them and a rear wall to allow the rear-firing port to work properly.
Single-wire connections – no bad thing at this price level – complete the package.
